May 2020’s Roofing Academy Member of the Month goes to Charles Nelson! Charles is the owner of Aubrey Ryan Construction serving Midland, Texas. Charles has been fully involved in the roofing industry for 2 years now and a member of The Roofing Academy since November 2019.
In addition to being a fantastic leader and mentor to the Aubrey Ryan Construction team, Charles Nelson is a family man who enjoys nothing more than spending quality time with his extended family. How long have you been in the roofing industry?

What is your favorite part about working in the roofing industry?
Challenging the status quo, there’s a lot of abuse and a lot of success in roofing companies. I want to be part of the successful and offer a great product to my clients.
What is the most challenging part of your role?
Really it’s letting go of control and realizing that it takes a team to build a great business.

What is the most valuable part of your Roof Academy membership?
I have access to great content for the team so that they can build their skills as well.
What advice would you give a newcomer to the roofing industry?
Know your why, without a compelling reason for what you do it will just become a high paying job you hate. Also, find great vendors for supplies and lean on them heavily, ABC Supply has some great outreach tools that new owners can use.
What was your first job ever?
Taco Bell!!
What does your ideal day off look like?
Just hanging with my family at the house, and going to the in-laws and swimming in the pool.
