How long have you been in the roofing industry?
I have been running my own roofing business since 2000. It has grown solely over the years but I’m finally almost 100% “off the tools.” Looking forward to growing and building a legacy.
What is your favorite part about working in the roofing industry?
I really enjoy seeing customers satisfied with their beautiful, new roof. As time goes on, I am realizing how I enjoy giving credit to the people who show up every day and make it all happen.
What is the most challenging part about your role in the roofing industry?
The most challenging things for me have been worrying about competitors pricing, believing that we can attract and retain good employees, and having faith that we offer a good service and will continue to grow if we set our mind to it.
How long have you been a member of The Roofing Academy?
We are still in our first year with The Roofing Academy. I have been skeptical about coaching/leaderships group in the past. I opened my mind to it and it has been a great change for me.
What has your experience with The Roofing Academy been like?
As I stated before, I was skeptical about coaching groups (was nervous with the cost). The Roofing Academy has been the best experience. Randy and his team really broke down my objections and showed me how helpfully they can be. I am very glad I joined. I am just beginning to scratch the surface of what I can learn from them.
What advice would you give a newcomer to the roofing industry?
Finish what you start. Always make sure the customer is satisfied (even if it cuts into your profits on a particular job). Reputation is everything.
What was your first job ever?
My first “real” job was in a restaurant. I washed dishes and began learning prep. Worked in the industry for many years. I believe I learned my work ethic in food service.
What does your ideal day off look like?
My ideal day off is one where I know that my business is running just fine while I disconnect. I enjoy skiing in the winter as well as snowshoeing. In the summer, I can spend an entire day trail running in the mountains- that is pure bliss.
Favorite food?
I’m a bit of a foodie. But if I have to pick just one, I’d say sushi.
Favorite sports team?
I do enjoy watching some different sports. Things like cycling (re:Tour De France) or skiing- the Winter Olympics this month!! I also enjoy movies of all kinds (old ones mostly).
One fun fact about yourself?
I hold a Private Pilot Certificate. My father built an airstrip on our property when I was a boy. Today, I can fly my own airplane out of my front yard!
